LiDestri & Iron Smoke Whiskey Toast to New Strategic Partnership

Image Description

Of the many benefits of our company's just-announced strategic partnership with Iron Smoke Whiskey, my favorite perk has to be the great pleasure of teaming up with another home-grown, family-owned company that’s authentic to its core.

Our partnership will help Iron Smoke Whiskey double—and double again—its output of some of the finest, award winning craft brown spirits in the world. And it will give LiDestri an outstanding, highly coveted product to offer retailers who are clamoring for craft whiskeys, given the 30 percent clip at which craft spirits sales are growing, according to the American Distilling Institute.

But above and beyond the bottom-line benefits, we are thrilled to have joined forces with Tommy Brunett, a legendary Rochester rock musician whose distillery was built on the foundation of his two All-American passions: whiskey and barbecue. He began experimenting with a marriage of the two in his backyard in the summer of 2010, using an old rusty barbecue smoker and offering the first tastes to friends and family.

Fast forward six years to today, and Tommy has an ingeniously branded, award-winning duo of extraordinary whiskeys in-demand by brown spirit aficionados around the globe: Rattlesnake Rosie’s Apple Pie Whiskey and the Fairport, N.Y., distillery’s namesake, Iron Smoke, an applewood-smoked, bourbon whiskey aged 16 months in virgin American oak barrels.

LiDestri has a company philosophy of trying to procure as much of our food and beverage ingredients locally as we possibly can, which was another reason the Iron Smoke partnership was a natural for our company. The four grains that go into Iron Smoke’s bourbon mash are grown right here in New York, all less than fifty miles from Fairport, where both of our companies are fortuitously located. Another local ingredient, Red Jacket Cider from Geneva, NY, combines with Iron Smoke’s house-made un-aged corn whiskey to fuel Rattlesnake Rosie’s Apple Pie Whiskey. And finally, Iron Smoke delivers the spent mash to local farmers to feed to their animals, furthering our team’s sustainability efforts and inspiring us to search for more ways to do so in the future.

I've known Tommy Brunett 20 years, having first met him at the Bug Jar, which coincidentally was owned at the time by his partner in Iron Smoke, Steve Brown. For LiDestri, bringing our local family companies together is more than just a smart business decision; it’s a partnership that feels both natural and right.
